Is there a free version of Fitbod?

Not really. Fitbod gives you a 7-day trial, and after it logging new workouts requires a paid plan: $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year at Fitbod’s list price, with lower prices sometimes shown in the App Store. You can still look at the workouts you already logged. If you want a strength app where logging stays free, the apps below all let you log without paying.

Why we built athlate

“I logged in a spreadsheet for years. It was fast, and last session sat right next to today’s, with RIR and RPE in plain sight. Most apps use cards, and that’s fine, but I wanted the choice. So athlate has both, one tap apart.”

Sebastian, who built athlate

Fitbod chooses. Rytme suggests.

Fitbod builds each workout for you from your settings and your history, and deliberately varies intensity and volume between sessions. You can edit it, but the app chooses first. In athlate, Rytme builds a full program from what you write, around your days, your equipment and what you have actually lifted. Every number comes with one sentence on why, and nothing changes until you approve it. When life gets in the way, you tell Rytme, and it shows which exercises it swaps and why. If you stop Rytme, the log, the graphs and the export stay, free.

What athlate does differently

  • One log, two views, one tap apart. A spreadsheet with every set, rep, weight and RIR in one grid, or cards with one exercise at a time. Switch mid session and nothing is lost.
  • No caps on the free plan. Unlimited workouts, routines, custom exercises and full history. Charts, the muscle map, the plate calculator, warm-up sets and export to Excel, CSV and PDF are all free.
  • Rytme explains every change. Write what you want in your own words and Rytme builds a full program around your days, your equipment and what you have actually lifted. Every number comes with one sentence on why. It suggests, you decide: nothing changes until you approve it.
  • Your history comes with you. Import from ten sources, including Strong, Hevy, Strava, Whoop and Oura, plus Apple Health.

When Fitbod is still the right choice

  • You want the app to decide each workout and you do not want to think about the plan at all.
  • You need Android, Apple Watch or Wear OS today. athlate does not have them yet.

If you mostly do cardio

If you mostly run, ride or swim, keep Strava for that. athlate connects to Strava, so your cardio lands next to your strength training, and a Garmin connection is planned. We recommend using them together: it gives you a very strong base for both.
